What is unique about Aikido? The uke and nage relationship

Aikido is a Japanese martial art commonly known as the 'way of harmonious spirit' or the 'art of peace and harmony'. Aikido employs fluid motion combined with shapes that are often found in nature to overcome superior strength and aggression. It's technical repertoire consists of powerful locking and pinning techniques and dynamic throws. Synonymous with the 'Iwama style', a strong focus and emphasis is placed on the weapons syllabus (sword 'bokken' and staff 'jo') which holds the fundamental basis for taijitsu (open handed) techniques.
